Reregistering a gold image Technical Note KB #: 00315 Component: O/S Layer Last Updated: October 7, 2014 Issue When you install the Unidesk Tools on a gold image, the gold image registers with the Management Appliance. Once this task is complete, you can select the gold image in the Unidesk Management Console when you create Operating System layers. If you remove the gold image (using the Remove Gold Image action in the Unidesk Management Console), you delete all information about the gold image from the Unidesk software and can no longer use the gold image to create Operating System layers. You may also want to use a gold image on a new Unidesk installation that was not where you originally imported it. The following procedure describes how to regregister the gold image. Recovering files directly from the User Layer disks when a desktop machine cannot boot Troubleshooting Articles KB #: 13863 Last Updated: February 13, 2014 When a desktop will not boot up or the Unidesk tasks for it consistently fail, it is possible to recover the user's data by copying it directly from the User Layer VMDK or VHDX files.  You might want to do this if you think the desktop is unrecoverable, but also if you think the user will need their data before you or Unidesk Support will be able to get it working again.  Or, if you need to Repair the desktop to an older backup, you can recover files from the current state before overwriting the disks. This technique can also be used to repair corrupted personalizations, for instance by running CHKDSK on them, which can sometimes resurrect a machine that fails all of its Unidesk tasks.  For this situation, specifically look for a desktop task that fails with the error " E...

A user can't connect to the Desktop using the VMware View or XenDesktop connection broker client. In the admin tool for the broker server, you see that the desktop isn’t connected. vSphere shows that the desktop doesn’t have an IP address, and the network for that Desktop is not working.
